Tunisian Kitty Pattern

Ahhh. The Holidays have finally arrived and that means we need to have those Christmas presents made. If you're like me and did not get a chance all year to work on that ugly Christmas sweater, well here is a small and easy kitty you can make for at least those little kids in your life. (Hint, I've made it for more than just kids. 👍 )

I call it the Tunisian Kitty. As I was scrolling through Ravelry, my biggest problem was not knowing how to knit in the round. So I pulled out the Tunisian crochet needle and started to get to work.

I personally like to use blanket yarn for the body so the fluffiness of a cat can be achieved. But any kind of super bulky will work.

Heres what you need:
-A super bulky yarn for the body.
-Any kind of yarn for the collar.
-Any color yarn for the eyes. Note: this doesn't require a lot of yarn so scrap yarn will work.
-Size 8, Tunisian crochet hook
-A tapestry needle

How to make it:

Chain 20 and tunisian knit stich for 11 rows, fasten off.

Next you're going to fold the fabric in half and single crochet the sides together. *NOTE: There will be a buldging seam on the cat. This will be the side of the cat. It will be very important for the making of the tail.

Next, take a length of yarn and tie it tight where you want the neck to be. You will have an upper cavity, which is the head, and a lower cavity, the body. Stuff some of the stuffing in the top cavity and single crochet it shut. There should be a single crochet line from one side to the other. Make sure it lines up with the side seam.

Stuff the rest of the stuffing into the bottom and sew it shut with the body colored yarn and your tapestry needle.

For the tail, attatch some yarn onto the bottom of that buldging seam. *sc 1, ch1* Repeat until tail is desired length.

You can leave the tail down, or attach it to the side of the cat.

On the top of the cat's head, you will have that sc line. You will need to crochet 3 stitches on one side and then fasten off. MAKE SURE TO LEAVE LONGER ENDS. Do not thread in the ends. Do the same on the other side of the head.

Take the ends and thread it through to the front side of the cat. Pull them across the front of the ear and thread it to the back. Tie the threads on that one ear together and thread them into the head. Do the same on the other ear.

For the collar, chain about 16. Make sure to leave really long yarn ends. Take the string off of your cat and remember where it was. Wrap the chain around in the same spot and tie the ends together so that the ends of the chain meet. Tie a little bow.

Take your eye color yarn and make a couple knots in the spot you want the eyes. Stuff ends into the head.

Viola! Your little kitty is complete!
