It's Beginning to Look Alot Like Christmas....

It's that time of year again! The time of year full of mistletoe and holly, eggnog and ginger (not to mention pumpkin spice flavored everything!) The market of the world is wrapped around the commercialism and all kinds of secular things. But, much like Charlie Brown, we stand around scratching our heads. What is the real meaning of Christmas? Why do we really celebrate it? What are we celebrating?

Well, the answer is very clear, yet we don't see it. Let's take, for instance, some of the most beautiful Christmas songs. Silent Night, Hark the Herald Angels Sing, and O Little Town of Bethlehem are a few examples. What are these songs talking about? What about the Nativity sets everyone has up? How about those Christmas cards with the three kings on camels carrying gold, frankincense, and myrrh?

Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. Most of the carols that we love all have lyrics about this great event in history. Jesus Christ was born in a stable about two thousand years ago in the time of Ceasar Augustus. We probably know the story. Because of the census that Augustus wanted, Mary and Joseph went to Bethlehem to be registered. But, there was no room in any of the inns. One inn keeper offered them the stable. While they were there, Mary gave birth to her firstborn son. His name was Jesus.

Nearby, there were some shepherds who were watching over their sheep. An angel of the Lord came upon them. The angel told them not to fear, but that the Son of God, the Messiah had been born. The angel told the shepherds that they would find the baby in the manger.

This whole story is what Christmas is all about. Christmas is time when we celebrate the birth of our Savior. Although, the world has turned it into a secular holiday, as Christians, we celebrate the birth of Jesus.

To all my readers, spend your Christmas with your loved ones and enjoy the time together. Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
