Ragtime

We probably have all heard of this style of music. Songs like the Entertainer and the Maple Leaf Rag are all ragtime. There was also a show called Ragtime. The syncopated beat of the ragtime was very catchy and this style of music was popular between 1895 and 1918.

The style of ragtime was found in African-American cities such as St Louis. Ernest Hogan was the first person to get his ragtime music published as sheet music in 1895.

Ragtime music was made especially popular by Scott Joplin with the publication of the Maple Leaf Rag and the Entertainer. The jazz music style soon took over in 1917, although, there have been many revivals throughout the years.Ragtime is honestly one of my favorite styles of music along with swing and Broadway music. That catchy syncapated beat on the piano will truly stay around for many years to come.
